Chapter One-The Command

I Watching Himwatched him, even though I knew it was against the Angel Code. I didn’t care; how could any demon be this gorgeous, on the inside and out? I sighed, knowing I would never know the demon that won my heart when he was the messenger for Satin.
But that was months ago, and I had only got a glimpse of him, only because I was helping God out with a storm. Again sighing, I thought about if he’d seen me. Oh yes, he must have seen me, I was gliding towards my quarters when I nearly ran into him. He apologized, which made it even harder to believe he worked for the Devil.
I heard the soft whoosh of an appearance. It was kind of like the footsteps of heaven. I waved my hand around my small cloud that sat beside me and looked to see my best friend and partner standing in the doorway, Michael. “Nathaniel, it’s time for the meeting.”
I smiled and shoved away from my desk like structure. From there I could see everything, I could tune into everything in the World and beyond, mostly beyond is used only in emergencies and for the higher ranking angels, but I couldn’t help myself.
We walked through the clouded heavens our feet letting touch the clouds. This was unusual angel behavior, but I was only a junior angel, they let it slide. When I died, or was reborn, Michael had been assigned the mentor me. But that didn’t quite go as planned, seeing how we fell in love. But love was such a strong word, I didn’t let anyone know, but it wasn’t what I was feeling. For me Michael was my safe harbor, so I guess that’s the same thing.
Sadly enough, when I died on Earth, I was only 16, an airplane ride gone wrong. So now, I was in heaven and had found him. We walked down the deserted streets, which I found odd. Mostly angels were gliding around, interacting or doing something outside.
And that’s when I noticed the clouds were gradually tuning a deep gray. Not normal. We quickened out pace and was in the large place last – the place was like an auditorium for humans.
I heard the beautiful Raphael speak God’s words, “There has been an awakening. We are in need of a messenger, and since this destination is not safe, we are wanting someone who will risk everything for us.” Many angel stood up, almost all of them. But we heard his booming, velvet voice, that made our knees buckle.
“Nathaniel, I see that you are not standing up.” Terror surged through me, God was speaking to me, and he did not sound pleased. “Well, my lord, I would think you would want an angel with experience to do this, so that they are sure to come back.”
“There is no sure thing that they will come back from hell, to where I send my message.” Hope surged through me, after those words, all of the angels sat back down. I stood up. Michael looked at me in confusion and so did Lucifer, my brother.
“Nathaniel, if you wish to go then so be it, meeting adjourned.” And with those words I knew I was in for more than I hoped. Damn. Michael took my hand and Lucifer came quickly to my other side.
“Nathan, what do you think you’re doing?” Lucifer said, whispering in my ear. I looked at him, then to Michael. “I’ll meet you for dinner, Michael; I need to talk with my brother.” He smiled then kissed my cheek. Blood rushed through my silver cheeks.
Then he glided away, I looked to Lucifer; he looked impatient. “Nathan, what about the…plan,” He said, in a low whisper.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Lucifer. This is your thing not mine, I don’t even know what you’re doing.” I said truthfully.
He sighed, impatient. Infuriated. Then he glided away. “Bye,” I mumbled under my breath. I’ve been an angel for more than a year now and still I felt so…human. Was I supposed to feel this way? The way I broke so many rules, or my rebellious side, was definitely the side that I was suppose to leave in the coffin, and my heart throbbing for the unknown demon was the teenage hormone side that I was not sure I still wanted.
Weren’t angels supposed to be saints and do whatever God thought best? Well it wasn’t working for me that way. Maybe I was a defected angel, one who was misplaced on God’s ‘Naughty and Nice List’. Where the naughty ones went to hell and the saints went to sit by God’s right hand?
That was the gist of everything when I first got here. Now things are really being twisted. I just sighed and walked out onto the darkening clouds. What was happening in this heaven? The clouds darkening, angels like me turning rebellious. Something was definitely off.
